Learn 3D Modeling with SketchUp Make 2017: A Free and Powerful Tool

These links no longer work. Does anyone know where I can find a version of SketchUp Make 2017 free? I only need it for some personal projects - planning my decking project and building a workshop in my garage.

My students all have Sketchup make 2017 downloaded on their computers. Last week they were able to access the 3d warehouse and download. Today no one, including me, were able to download from the warehouse. Help Please!

The 3D Warehouse supports the latest three versions of SketchUp. End of support for SU2018 and SU2017 was announced several months ago and ended in the last week or so. This end of support was delayed a year for SU2017.

It is possible to get components by using the Components panel instead of the 3D Warehouse interface. Alternatively they can go to the 3D Warehouse via their Internet browser, download the Collada file, and import the included .dae file into SketchUp.

SketchUp Make is the free version of Sketchup Pro but is not as robust with features. It doesn't have advanced features for 3D modeling and rendering, which makes construction easier or more accurate. The most recent update was in 2017 as the team stopped developing the free version. If you're looking for an updated free 3D modeling app, also check out Autodesk 123D, Autodesk 3DS MAX, and AutoCad, which are used by professionals.

SketchUp also has a vast array of 3D models from which you can download and customize everything from fences to refrigerators. The online library includes full models of various building types that you can import into SketchUp and customize to make it your own design. You will have the ability to create ambitious projects such as mansions or skyscrapers. Additionally, most templates are not just external shells but have interior details too.

Originally released as free open-source software, the popular 3D-modeling program SketchUp now comes with a premium price tag. Or does it? You can still download a free desktop version if you know where to look.

As always, the SketchUp team has made a variety of improvements. One of the major changes is the move to an new hardware-based shader design for their 3D graphics display. Note that this imposes some new restrictions on what kind of hardware can run SketchUp 2017. You can read more about that here. Also note that with SU2017, they are dropping support for 32-bit (X86) versions for Windows (support for 32-bit OSX was already dropped in a previous version).

We always recommend that you just download the latest installer (making sure to pick the right version!) and rerun it. That will always ensure your installation is correct, instead of using a plugin manager to do it.

SketchUp Make 2017 (64-bit) is a free, easy-to-learn 3D-modeling program with a few simple tools to let you create 3D models of houses, sheds, decks, home additions, woodworking projects, and even space ships. You can add details, textures, and glass to your models, and design with dimensional accuracy. You can place your finished models in Google Earth, share them with others by posting them to the 3D Warehouse, or print hard copies. SketchUp Make 2017 is a great way to discover if 3D modeling is right for you.

With the release of SketchUp Make 2017, we've removed support for 32-bit operating systems, OpenGL 2.0, and software rendering of models (as opposed to hardware acceleration). We also removed support for OS X 10.9 (Mavericks.)

All Render Plus products have been tested with SketchUp 2017. If you have purchased or renewed your license in the past 12 months, you can download the latest version and install it for use with SketchUp 2016.

This plug-in no doubt can import sketchup model to CAD. But when the model is called in into the CAD software, the model scale is messed-up. So basically you can't do anything on the model except you have to re-draw again. But, I found in the sketchup software, you can actually to EXPORT the sketchup model into CAD model and the scale is still same from the original model.

This is a very important tutorial. It brings closure to a five-year-old technical problem that I'vehad. As it happens, I tried running SketchUp in Linux thrice, through WINE. In 2010 and 2016, this effort yielded good results. In 2017, it was a failure. Now, finally, I was able to overcome theproblem.

SketchUp Make 2017 is the last free offline edition of this lovely 3D program line. Since, if youwant to do some nice design, you can either pay for the Pro version or use the rather limitedin-browser free edition. This makes the 2017 version highly valuable to me, but I had struggled gettingit running properly in Linux for a while now. Let's amend that.

I installed and ran SketchUp Make 2017 in Kubuntu 18.04 on my Slimbook Pro laptop. You are most likely going tohave even more success in newer editions of the Ubuntu family range, or newer editions of otherdistributions. The reasons for this will become apparent shortly.

Kubuntu 18.04 lacks the FAudio libraries, which are mandatory for WINE 6.X. I had to download andconfigure the missing packages manually. You can obtain the libraries in differentways. I downloaded the .deb file available on the OpenSUSE Build Service, and then tried toinstall it.

Before you do any fresh installations, check whether you have old versions or builds of these twopackages already installed through WINE. You should remove them, and then clean-install the two newexecutables you have just downloaded.

Today was a good day. After all, I've been sort of waiting for this moment for so long. In fact, Imay even allow myself a tiny dose of optimism. A few months back, I tried a few Windows games in Steam via Proton, and the results were better than what Ihad when Proton just came out. Now, there's this little success with SketchUp Make 2017. Actually, it'sa big success.

The current OpenStudio packages are not compatible with SketchUp 2017. We are working on upgrading OpenStudio to Ruby 2.2 for compatibility with SketchUp 2017, in the meantime you can email openstudio@nrel.gov to ask for links to SketchUp 2016 Make.

In this article we will take a look at how we can utilize Blender as Sketchup modelers and export/import textured models between the two programs. We will use Blender version 2.80 and Sketchup maker 2017. To export and import Sketchup files into Blender we will also look at a way to bring .skp files into 2.80 through 2.79 since the .skp add-on is not yet available in Blender 2.80.

How to import a Blender model into Sketchup? The easiest way to get a Blender model into Sketchup is to export using Collada(.dae). Then import the .dae file into Sketchup Maker 2017. This will keep the diffuse texture from Blender to be viewed in Sketchups viewport. You may have to tick "selection only" in Blenders Collada export settings as the only exception to the default export settings.

The Sketchup file importer for Blender supports version 2017 or earlier. Later file versions can be re-saved as 2017 .skp files by selecting the correct file format when saving in later versions of Sketchup.

This won't help you much, but you are correct. Shortly after Trimble bought SketchUp from Google they eliminated the free version of downloadable SketchUp, I believe 2017 was the last year SketchUp "Make" was available, and replaced it with the web-based SketchUp "Free" which has an entirely different user interface and limitations. Since I use SketchUp Pro I really can't say much about the web version other than my few limited exposures left me unimpressed. The great thing about "Make" was it had exactly the same interface as the more advanced version of SketchUp making it easy to transition from one to the other which is exactly what I did. The web based offering has little in common with SketchUp Pro from what I can tell. I thought I had seen a post awhile back about somewhere you could still download the 2017 MAKE but I could be mistaken.

Trimble purchased SketchUp from Google back in 2012. It was more than 5 years after the purchase that they stopped development of SketchUp Make. They continued to offer 2017 Make up through May of this year.

Also since SketchUp for web runs in a browser, you can access it from any computer with an internet connection. For me that sometimes means I don't need to carry a computer with me to show a client or a friend my files. I can log into my account and open SketchUp Go from their computer. Or I can send them a link to the file which they can open in the online viewer. No need for them to install SketchUp or download my SketchUp file.

I concur with DaveRichards including being careful who/where you download from. However, CNET has been around for many years and I have no reason yet to not trust them.I'll also emphasize his point about any OS being able to use the internet version. This is a boon to Linux users who can't run Sketchup except possibly through a secondary program called Wine. And I'm not sure that works. One thing that might be considered a web version disadvantage is that you cannot save your work to your own computer. It can only be saved to the Trimble server.
